Green America recently published an article about toxins in personal care products, titled "Is It Poison", April/May 2011. In the article, the author lists 9 toxins to avoid, including parabens, fragrance, nanoparticles, formaldehyde, phthalates, petroleum by-products, triclosan, lead, and mercury. Read more to find out how Dermagenics stacks up... (Spoiler alert: We don't have any!)
Dermagenics was created from the beginning to leave out many of the common skin irritating ingredients, and is free of parabens, toxins, dyes, fragrances, mineral oils, alcohol and formaldehyde. We also leave out lead, mercury, nanoparticles, phthalates, and triclosan.
Many harmful ingredients are hidden in fragrances, because companies are not required to disclose or make available the ingredients used in the fragrance. This means that a product with "fragrance" listed in the ingredients could also contain harmful ingredients that you would never know about. When formulating our anti-aging skin care line, we chose to leave out fragrance. One reason was to make sure our products work in harmony with sensitive skin, and also to show that we are not hiding any ingredients; everything is listed clearly on the label.
So how can our products be safe AND effective? It turns out that the active ingredients in our products are not only safe, but they are actually working to protect the skin from environmental damage and free radicals. We've gone beyond the minimum requirement of toxin free skin care, and designed our skin care products to be without compromise. While many products make skin more susceptible to UV rays, our products include antioxidants that protect the skin from damage, and help the skin repair itself from the inside out.
Dermagenics is committed to developing the purest and most effective skin care products available. Hopefully this trend catches on. Check your labels, tell your friends, and demand toxin free skin care!
